week of 4 August
Olga is now in Mexico where she is 8th seeded and will play in her opening round against her friend Yaroslava Shvedova of whom she has won their two previous meetings.
This was last year in the first round of Roland Garros where Olga won with 7-5 7-5 and this year in the first round of Indian Wells, then Olga won in three tough sets, 2-6 6-4 7-6(4).
Once again this match would prove to be very tough, unfortunately this time luck wasn't on Olga's side and Shvedova won in three sets, 7-6(7) 3-6 3-6
Olga is partnering this week Monica Niculescu (WTA-62) and the team is first seeded!
In the first round they'll have to play against Jelena Pandic (WTA-682) and Magdalena Rybarikova (no doubles ranking). Although this seems and easy match, both players are playing really good in singles and 2008 has been a good year for both so far! Hopefully Olga and her parnter will be able to win this match.
Just as her single's match this one would prove to be an even tougher one. Olga and her partner lost their opening match in two sets, 5-7 6-7(2)
week of 28 July
Olga is now in Montréal- Canada where she is playing a Tier I tournament. Although some top 10-players didn't come to the Canada to play Olga had to start her tournament in the qualifications where she was 6th seeded.
Olga had a bye
in the first round and had to play teenager Michelle Larcher de Brito (15years and WTA-169)
. The two hadn't played each other before but in Stanford Michelle made it through the qualifications to the second round. Olga lost the match in two sets 2-6 4-6
Because Ashley Harkleroad had to witdraw Olga was taken into the main draw as a lucky Looser. She will play in the first round against Italian Flavia Pennetta (WTA-18)
who made it last with to the final of the Tier II tournament of Los Angeles.
The two have played each other twice before. The first time Olga was able to win in two sets (6-3 7-6(8)) but this was in 2005. Eralier on this year Pennetta won on the clay of Rome in three sets of Olga (6-7(9) 6-3 6-1). Let's hope Olga will be able to win this match and take some points for her ranking!
Once again Olga started really well against Pennetta and took the first set with 6-1 and was even leading in the second 4-3 30-0 but Pennetta was able to turn back the set and the match winning in three sets,6-1 5-7 3-6
. Olga was close against a player who's in good form. Hopefully Olga will be able to make some nice wins these next weeks.
Olga is playing this week with Melinda Czink (WTA-126). In the first round they will play against Canadian Wildcards Melanie Gloria and Valerie Tetreault
Olga and Melinda won their first round match in three sets, the match was allready started on Monday but because of rain it was stopped and yesterday evening the players came back on the court. The Canadian WC took the first set but Olga and her partner were able to win the next two sets, 4-6 6-3 11-9
In the next round Olga and Melinda had to play the second seeds Kveta Peschke(WTA-3) and Rennae Stubbs(WTA-5)
. After her second round match Olga's partner, Melinda was forced to withdraw so this was also the end of this tournament for Olga.
Olga is now going to Mexico where she will play a $100.000 H ITF tournament.
